Description

The Department of Veterinary Sciences, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, invites applications for a
Full Professorship (W3) of Virology (Chair)
commencing as soon as possible.
The Chair represents the subject of virology in teaching and research. The applicant should be an internationally recognized scientist
who employs state-of-the-art methods to further advance the understanding of viral infections and their diseases in farm and
companion animals.
The Chair of Virology is located in a brand-new building on the campus of Oberschleißheim. The building holds dedicated laboratories
and an animal facility for projects conducted under biological safety levels 2 and 3.
We expect intensive cooperation with the relevant scientific institutions within the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the Munich
research community to foster a strong One-Health focus in research and teaching. An excellent international network, substantial
expertise assessing viral infections in animals – including zoonoses – up to the biological safety level 3 as well as experience in
acquiring national and international third-party funding are mandatory requirements. Prerequisites for this position are a university
degree, preferably in veterinary medicine, a doctoral degree or a comparable specific qualification, teaching skills at university level,
excellent academic achievements and a productive and promising research program that comprises basic as well as applied research.
Requirements
According to domestic legal guidelines (TAppV) the successful applicant will be responsible for teaching veterinary students in
Virology and Animal Disease Control including Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases. Future courses should put a strong emphasis on
a One-Health approach while still in accordance with the requirements of the TAppV to strengthen the competence of future
veterinarians in Veterinary Public Health.
As communication with students, staff, industry and stakeholder will require knowledge of spoken and written German, it is required
for the successful candidate to demonstrate the sincere willingness to become proficient in German.
